2013 Tour De King Wrap-up!
The PFAFF Tour de King, presented by Bikesports, attracted some 300 riders this year with just about everyone completing the 50km and 35 km route options through the beautiful countryside of King Township.
Leading up to event day this year, we were lucky that the deluge of rain that fell during the weekend ended a day prior! This of course made for some slick off-road sections but for the most part the ride was very enjoyable and we were still able to utilize the actual mountain bike trails in Centennial and Seneca college.
While this fall event consists mostly of recreational riders, the prize money does attract some of Canada’s top talent. Among them was Derek Zandstra, National Champion and World Cup racer. Special thanks to Derek for getting off his bike while in the lead to fix some downed arrows and course tape as there was vandalism just prior to the race coming through Seneca. He still had time to ride to victory! Derek’s Scott 3Rox teammate, and another Canadian favourite Amanda Sin also made an appearance and topped the podium this year.
A special thanks goes out to all of our volunteers, to PFAFF Auto and Bikesports, and to Multisport Canada for helping with race organization. Big thanks also to World Cup racer, and another local favourite, Emily Batty for joining us for the day and helping out with the awards!
Finally, huge thanks to all the riders for another great Tour De King! Hope to see you all next year!
As always, special thanks to RaceDayRush for these teaser photos below! Head on over to their site for more great pics of this event and many others!
