Once again Superfly Racing presents the Trek School Series, an introductory Mountain Bike series spanning elementary to High School age groups. The series boasts fun, beginner to intermediate trails, computer timing and a fun, laid-back atmosphere. This Ontario Cycling Association sanctioned series takes place at 3 locations all within close proximity to the GTA, and is a safe way to introduce kids to both Mountain Biking and the outdoors. While some riders come on their own with parental supervision, many schools come as a group and it’s great to see the enthusiasm and camaraderie from big teams.

Teachers and Parents

While some districts embrace Mountain Biking as a fun, safe, and socially and environmentally positive activity, some boards and Principals are more hesitant. Mountain Biking is one of the safest outdoor activities, and promotes a healthy lifestyle and interaction with our most important resource, the planet. High School Coaching Workshop – Sunday, April 10th, Joyride indoor cycling park

For 2011, Superfly Racing is teaming up with some of the Province’s most capable Mountain Biking coaches to offer assistance to would-be High School coaches. This one day clinic will arm you with knowledge that will not only make you a better coach, but also give you clout when approaching your school regarding cycling. Topics of discussion will include methods of teaching technical riding, training sessions and a section promoting the wellness and safety of the sport. Armed with the most current knowledge, coaches will be better equipped to advocate Mountain Biking to their schools, and parents. Your only costs will be Joyride’s day fee. Please RSVP with Sean at sean@chicoracing.com

Schedule for Coaches Clinic – Sunday, April 10th

Start Time: 10 am, Joyride 150 indoor cycling centre, Markham.
Finish Time: 4 pm, with option to ride longer.

Rough Agenda:

10 – 10:30 – Sign In – with waivers sign etc.
You must sign a waiver if you have never been to Joyride in the past. Also I will have a sheet in our space that you can sign into so that we can confirm names and number of our group for the day.
10:30 -10:45 – Free ride time and gathering.
You will likely want to roll around the facility for a few min’s when you arrive to check things out. Such a cool place.
10:50 – 11:15 – Introduction (Mike Garrigan and Mr. Jurbala)
11:15 – 12 – The sport of MTB and what you are preparing for. (Mike G, Eric O)
What our sport looks like on an international level and where it is headed? What it will be like to go to a MTB event, what your daily schedule should look like on race day.
12 – 12:45 – Hurdles of starting a team (Paul C, Eric O and Mike G)
Open discussion about the challenges of starting a school team and hear briefly about the evolution of our sport in the school system.
12:45 – 1:15 – Lunch.
1:30 – 2 – Need to do’s (Paul C, Eric O, Paul J and Mike Garrigan)
List of what you need to do to start your team in your school and how to overcome the small stuff.
2 – 2:45 – Contact list
Create a contact list and action plan for those looking to start their team and those looking to help others start teams.
3 – 5 – Ride plans and training options for school groups. (Mike G)
Some informal sessions on the type of skills you should share with your riders and what type of terrain you can use to teach these skills.
